Master of Computer Applications - MCA

The First and Second semesters aims at preparing the graduates to handle computers in large organizations. Programming concepts and handling of various operating systems are exposed in these two semesters.
After successful completion of the first two semesters of MCA, if a student wishes to discontinue the course, such student shall be awarded with the Post Graduate Diploma in Computer Application [PGDCA].

In the Third and Fourth semesters, students will be exposed to programming languages, data base management techniques, Networking and Software management techniques, communication techniques along with algorithmic theories.
After successful completion of the first four semesters of MCA, if a student wishes to discontinue the course, such student shall be awarded with the Master of Science in Computer Science (MScCS).

The Fifth and Sixth semesters of the course aims to train the graduates with latest technical skills and software management skills required at the higher levels of IT management. Students will be exposed to software management, networking concepts, operating system concepts, computer architectures, processors and other advanced concepts in IT field.
After completion of Sixth semester, students shall be awarded with Masters in Computer Application (MCA)

Sikkim Manipal University of Health, Medical and Technological sciences, Gangtok is incorporated under the state Legislative Act (Act IX of 1995) the Government of Sikkim and is recognised by Ministry of Human Resource development and University Grants Commission under Section 2(f).

The university is offering distance education programs in association with Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) and Manipal IT Education, as a part of its efforts to bring education to masses and fulfill the growing demand for software professionals.

The courses includes Master degree programs, Bachelor degree programs, Diploma and Post Graduate diploma both in Information Technology and Management category. Twining programs are also launched in collaboration with IT majors in the field of Wireless Technology.

A nationwide network of study centers for various programs have been established. To enable every student to choose study center that is readily accessible and nearest to him/her, a large number of study centers have been authorised by the Learning Resource Development Center. MANIPAL IT EDUCATION is our Learning Resources Development Centre to provide student support services at various study centers.

  University Centers of SMU will be permitted to offer all courses leading to Bachelors and Masters degree. To improve the quality of lecture and faculty presentations, all university centers have been provided with an effective interactive distance learning system making use of VSAT technology. These presentations delivered in the studio at Manipal can be seen and heard live by the students in their centers connected through VSAT terminals. These Virtual classrooms will make the learning process more effective and consistent, using qualified teachers.

  Study centers of SMU will be permitted to offer Diploma and PG Diploma courses, i.e. up to Second Semester. If a student wants to pursue his study beyond Second semester; he may get himself transferred to any University Center nearby
